Purpose

Formerly known as Student Foundation, Gold Star Society members serve as the official student ambassadors to the President of Texas State University. Rooted in leadership, networking, and Texas State pride and legacy, Gold Star Society students represent the university with distinction, build meaningful connections, and give back through hospitality and example.

History

Gold Star Society launched in fall 2023 in support of the university and its potential and promise ahead. Originally founded as Student Foundation by the Dean of Students in 1978, Gold Star Society is Texas State University's presidential ambassador organization. Gold Star Society members serve as official student representatives on behalf of the university and the University President at a variety of campus and community functions. Gold Star Society members showcase the excellence of Texas State and are role models of professionalism, hospitality, character, and Bobcat pride. Gold Star Society is a prestigious organization that provides opportunities for leadership development, meaningful campus involvement, and networking with university leadership, alumni, and other partners.

  • Build social skills, practice business etiquette, take advantage of leadership opportunities, and serve as an official university representative

  • Attend presidential events and programs

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3.0 Texas State GPA (includes ONLY those courses completed at Texas State)
  • At the time of application, students must have completed at least four undergraduate semesters at TXST and have at least two semesters of undergraduate coursework remaining
  • Enrolled full-time 
  • Be in good academic and social standing with the university
  • Must have held at least one leadership role on campus. Leadership roles may include but are not limited to: student organization officers, Orientation Leaders, Past Presidents Leadership Class Students, Resident Assistants, ROTC, peer mentors, or academic leadership responsibilities such as student teaching or supervising research activities
  • Exemplify the pillars of Gold Star Society: Leadership, Professionalism, Hospitality, TXST Pride and Spirit 

Responsibilities

Gold Star Society members are committed to fulfilling the following responsibilities on a volunteer basis for the term of one academic year:

  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings 
  • Attend new member training events and mandatory team development opportunities such a retreats, etiquette dinners, and special events
  • Complete a minimum of 35 service hours each fall semester and 25 service hours each spring semester by volunteering for University events and programs that require Gold Star Society support
