A Transformational Step for TXST – We’re Headed to the Pac-12!

Today marks a truly historic moment in the journey of Texas State University. I am excited to share we will be joining the Pac-12 Conference effective July 1, 2026—a move that reflects the momentum we have built and our bold vision for the future.

This transition is more than athletics—it is a powerful symbol of who we are and where we are going. In just three years, we have broken records in enrollment, retention, and research. We have expanded our academic offerings (nearly doubling the number of doctoral programs), retained and graduated more Bobcats, launched international study abroad programs, created greater access to a TXST degree through community college partnerships, and are on track to achieve R1 status by 2027. Our selection to host a U.S. presidential debate in 2024 and the opening of our Mexico campus further underscore our rising national and international profile.

TXST joins Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah State and Washington State as nine foundational members of the new Pac-12. We are ready to help build a league with today’s landscape and student-athletes in mind.

Joining the Pac-12 elevates our institutional standing, and it aligns us with peer institutions that share our aspirations. It provides new opportunities to grow our brand, enhance student recruitment, and increase the value of a TXST degree. And importantly, it reinforces our championship mindset—one that guides every part of our university, including academics, student success, research, and athletics.

We are deeply grateful for the 12 years we spent in the Sun Belt Conference. The SBC has been an incredible partner in our growth, and we will always be proud of what we accomplished together.

This milestone would not have been possible without the steadfast support of the Texas State University System, our Board of Regents, and each of you who continue to believe in and work toward our shared mission.

I’m excited for this next chapter together!

With gratitude and pride,
