Top Ten Moments: March 2024
1. Meeting with Donors, Alumni, and the Terry Foundation

It was a great morning meeting with Yvonne Moody, executive director of the Terry Foundation, and other TXST donors and alumni in Houston! We are very grateful for the support from the Terry Foundation, which provides four-year scholarships to 24 Bobcats each year.
2. Enjoying Bobcat Baseball at Minute Maid Park

This was a day I won’t take for granted! It was an honor to throw out the first pitch at the Astros Foundation College Classic as Bobcat Baseball beat Texas (again) in a thrilling game. Thanks to everyone who made this happen and the approximately 250 alumni who showed up to support our team.
3. Celebrating 30 Years of COE's Teacher Fellows

It was a day of highlighting teachers! After the College of Education’s annual Future Teachers Conference, Beth and I headed out to celebrate the 30th anniversary of COE’s Teachers Fellows Program. This 15-month master's program is a partnership with Leander, Hays, Round Rock, and Lockhart ISDs.
4. Seeing Students Working at the Outlet Mall

TXST is so important to the local economy because our university adds thousands of consumers and potential employees. I had a fun shopping trip to the outlet mall in San Marcos recently and got to meet several of our hard-working students.
5. Highlighting 40 Years of Phi Beta Sigma

A huge thank you to TXST’s Phi Beta Sigma Pi Xi Chapter for inviting me to celebrate their 40th anniversary of being a part of our university. It was a great meeting so many alumni there, including alumni board president Tracy Parker.
6. Cheering on Basketball at Sun Belt Tournaments

Beth and I were excited to watch our amazing student-athletes compete in the Sun Belt Conference Tournaments in Pensacola while supported by our Band Department and Cheerleaders.
7. Supporting our Endowment for Foster Students

Beth and I are humbled by everyone who donated to our scholarship program to support TXST students who have aged out of the foster system. Your gifts in honour of my 61st birthday will change the lives of these students. I’m grateful for you all and thank you for surpassing our goal!
8. Traveling to D.C. to Spread TXST News

We made so much out of our time at the nation’s capital, visiting with the Department of Defense, White House staff, the National Science Foundation, Texas delegation members, TSUS colleagues, Health and Human Services, the Department of Education, and the Department of Transportation.
9. Recognizing TXST Staff for Deeds of Valor

Inspired by the words in our alma mater, we began our Deeds of Valor monthly recognition program for faculty and staff members this year. Our March honoree is Research Support Services Director Evy Gonzales.
10. Speaking with Medical Laboratory Science Students

Thanks to Crispina Harris for inviting me to speak with our Medical Laboratory Science program students. I can’t think of a better way to get my day started than by interacting with our students.
BONUS - Supporting Zeta’s Breast Cancer Fundraiser
Many thanks to our Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Chapter for inviting me to their breast cancer fundraiser and for everything they do to support those facing breast cancer. Our students and researchers are wonderful.
